What Future Employees Want
The impact of the pandemic has had a devastating effect on employment in the US in 2020 and it continues to ripple in the “Great Resignation”.
The Bureau Labor Statistics quotes more than 19 million workers quit their jobs since April 2021. In September and November 8.9 million more workers quit. jobs. A McKinsey Quarterly study predicts the great resignation will continue.
40% of workers from this survey said they are somewhat likely to quit in the next 3-6 months. 18% of workers say their intentions range from likely to almost certain. These findings held across 5 countries surveyed (Australia, Singapore, Canada, UK, and US) and were broadly consistent across industries.
The report also says 60% of workers said they were not likely to quit in the next 3-6 months. However, the study warns with increasing options available to workers, the 60% of employees could change their intentions at any time.

Work Will Change
A year-long study by Citrix surveyed 500 HR Directors in large corporations and mid-sized businesses with more than 500 employees. They wanted to understand how work will change. Here are some study findings:
1. Flexible work options
88% of knowledge workers say are looking for positions offering complete flexibility in their hours and location.
75% of workers polled believe employees are more likely to prioritize lifestyle (family/personal interests) over proximity to work and will pursue jobs in locations where they can focus on both – even if it means taking a pay cut.
83% of employees think that workers are more likely to move out of cities and urban areas, if they can work remotely most of the time, creating new work hubs in rural areas.
2. Reimagine the way work is evaluated
Workers want to be measured on the value they deliver, not the volume. They also expect to be given the space and trust to do their best work, wherever they work.
86% of employees said they would prefer to work for a company that prioritizes outcomes over output. What this means is:
New employees want to work for a company that cares less about the quantified work product they produce and more about the impact they can deliver to the business in the holistic sense.
3. Work with a diverse team
86% of employees and 66% of HR Directors assert that a diverse work force will become more important as roles, skills and company requirements change over time.
